on the rice crisis..

iv been asked by some friends lately on the "supposed" rice crisis. of course i get the most common "is there really a rice crisis?" inquiry to the more chismis-type "ui, is that ur boss on tv patrol? he looks cute!no wonder ur still stuck there despite the small pay youre getting." ok, ok. now there's the rub!
so to set things straight, let me discuss it in layman's term ayt?

1. the problem is we have fucking hoarders. big millers in isabela.everywhere.expose na ito!haha. but thats the truth. they have huge, huge bodegas up there... all brimming with tons of rice.but hey, NFA doesnt know about it, yeah?so they keep the huge, huge bodegas brimming with tons of rice locked. the gates only open up to loading trucks.

2. increased fuel cost in the world market. fuel is essential in palay production. farm machineries used to plow the field and harvest the crop need fuel to run. trucks need fuel to transport palay from the farmers' field to the market. and they dont only transport the palay ok? the fertilizers and chemicals too. machines that will mill the palay need fuel. machines need the damned fuel. (i feel like im a machine sometimes pero buti na lang i dont run on oil. or else. nyahaha.) so there. you spend more in producing palay and therefore you have to sell it at a higher price to get some profit.

3. the biofuel mania. there is a high demand for biofuels and some farmers decided to grow crops that produce biofuels instead of rice. you get the drift now, ayt?

4. climate change. some parts are getting dried up, while some parts of the world are getting drenched. crop losses. when climate changes, pests and diseases crop up too. its an all-star cast of beasts that eat up the plant before it gets harvested.

why cant we produce enough rice supply for the country?

1. because our country's geography doesnt have any major river deltas that can irrigate rice lands.

2. agricultural lands devoted to rice is decreasing in terms of area harvested. rice lands are being converted to commercial and residential use.

3. filipinos have a funny habit of multiplying. its like, pag naulanan dumadami. sila, kahit walang ulan kusang dumadami. magkindatan lang si nanay at tatay, may beybi na naman after 9 months. filipinos produce three babies per minute!supply cant meet the demand.

so what can we do now? magtipid! we waste 25,000 cavans of rice per day. if youre not that starving pa naman, go for half rice lang muna...

and to GMA, aba madam, magtipid ka din pwede? you spent four fucking millions for that pa-cute food summit you organized in pampanga. madami ka na sanang napakaing mga pilipino nun! you're getting to my nerves na ha?!

the diaries of a wander girL :)

Its been almost a month since I last posted a note here. Been busy with work, that’s why… I was out of town for 3 consecutive weeks.whoa. first week was in butuan in agusan del sur. Then I spent the weekend in surigao del sur, spent the following week in midsayap, north cotabato. By Friday I was already in davao because my flight back to manila was on the following day. Had a relaxing weekend in pangasinan, then went back to my so-called homebase in ecija. Spent Monday and Tuesday at the office then flew again to zamboanga on Wednesday. Went to basilan on Friday morning then flew back to manila in the afternoon. Reached the dorm at 3am, Saturday na! bionic! Now here’s a rundown of some funny moments during that 3-week trip.

* I rode mindanao’s famous habal-habal when I was on my way to my aunt’s place in surigao. Earlier that day, I was so excited for my upcoming adventure. I was gonna travel alone, with my fon as my only lifeline to my aunt who was giving me directions. Twenty minutes after we left butuan, my “adventure” idea was gone. I started to feel scared. The driver pulled over because “there’s a problem with the breaks.” Yeah right, adventure pla ha! Adventure to the ravines kamo!haysh. after an hour and a half, we had to stop again. Again, the breaks. And the clutch. And everything else. Tsk! As we were nearing Forrest Drive where I was supposed to get off, the front tires started to skid and we smashed right into the face of the mountain. That’s when I felt like breaking down. There was a poor signal; my phone’s battery was running empty. Kalamidad! Good thing I was able to call Nanay Eva.. who later showed up with a habal-habal! My first time and it was definitely fun!

* The weekend in surigao was a blast! We went to tinuy-an falls, a huge, humongous falls that I started to act like a schizophrenic when I saw it. Van was like, “si ate kat parang bata..!” I so loved it there. I also saw aquarium fished being sold at the public market. And the dolls!haha. they looked so real. J

* Eto ang wagi. When I was on my way to davao airport, the cab driver, feeling über confident asked me, “mam, san po ba kayo bababa? Sa cargo terminal po ba o passenger terminal?” taena! Ano tingin niya sken, a freaking cargo?! Human rights violation!

* In zambo, a former high ranking DA official was bitching on me. All the time mehn! Da who?! Clue: he was sacked because of an anomaly. Is a f*cking closet gay. Felt insecure siguro kaya imbyerna sken ang lola mo!haysh! we call him OFB. Now im not about to give you what that means and you wont even find it in acronym finder sites. Hah! Because if I did, I WILL LOSE MY JOB. J

agusan adventure!

still here in agusan. been enjoying myself.monday we ate this delicious dish called chicken inato in butuan's weegol's resto. tuesday evening it was eat-all-you-can in a seafoods restaurant. loved their scallops! wednesday we went to magallanes town where we bought fresh crabs which were later served during lunch. yum yum! passed by the century tree on the way back to the office. the marker says its been there for 500 years. whoa. couldnt help but hug history. will post pictures of that hug later. dinner last night was in one of the ihawan restos in butuan. thought it was patupat but it was actually sticky rice. sir tems, branch manager for philrice agusan said the packaging is meant for travelers. good idea butuan folks. :)
